Accessibility Statement

On a personal and professional perspective, I believe that we all should strive for making web content that is accessible for everyone, and intuitive to use. For this reason, I believe it is my responsibility and passion to strive for making an accessible online portfolio.

I have aimed to make this website as accessible as possible according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines of level A and AA, and will continue to try to enhance it as time goes on. Here's how.

This page was last updated on June 16th, 2024.

In what ways is the website accessible?

This website was built from scratch with the aim of being as compliant as possible with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 level A an AA. It is not currently fully compliant with either, for the most part because of limitations from the website builder. I am in a continuous process to try to improve it on all aspects under my control.

Compliances

  • The video has manually edited closed captions in both English and Portuguese and a transcription in English.

  • All images have descriptive and adequate alt text;

  • The whole website can be navigated and used through a keyboard, with a visible visual representation of its focus;

  • All components have sufficient color contrast according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines of level AA;

  • All text and interactable components have a reasonable default size to improve readability;

  • All pages have been structured with cohesive and descriptive headings and page titles and simple, understandable language;

  • All pages are structured in sections with correctly hierarchized headings.

Limitations

  • The video doesn't have a transcript in Portuguese, and some of its visual information is not present in the script;

  • The headings and normal text on the Resume page are displayed in a confusing order for screen readers - as the dates for each project aren't under the correct heading. This may also happen with the images in each porfolio case.

  • The contact forms don't display error messages to screen readers, and the message stays on-screen only for brief moments;

  • Some form elements don't have a label and none allow for autocompletion;

  • When increasing the font size up to 200%, no text disappears, but words may be broken down into two or three lines.

  • Some words are in a different idiom than the main language used on the page, and they are not identified.
